Round House Actives - Self Led Activities
Dudsbury iron age info.pdf
• A geocaching trail is laid on site, it takes you on a time trail from Iron Age to today. Each one has a photo, a 'message' from the time period and an activity related to it. If you want to see one (spoiler alert) there is one under the eaves round the back of the roundhouse. There are GPS units with the caches pre-loaded which are stored in the house and include instructions and risk assessment.
• Spelt flour for bread making and recipe cards (self led), at a recent BP w/e made some bread and lit a fire inside the round house which has a fire place and bread oven inside,
• There is a collection of Roundhouse Stories in the metal cupboard in Nadine. Some of them are designed to be dramatised in small groups, suitable for the audience to create sound affects to accompany them or other ways of dramatic story telling.
• There is a box of Iron Age dressing up clothes available.
• The weaving resources are available- carding wool with instructions is in there, dying the wool with natural dyes will be added and the looms for weaving are available with instructions (self lead).
• There is clay and clay tools in the cabinet and Celtic designs. We are looking in to constructing a kiln to fire pots, clay beads etc.
• There are embossing tools, tin shapes and instructions to make brooches, necklaces and buckles with Celtic designs. Also suggestions on how to make and copy celtic designs.
• There are leather craft tools, and leather
• The instructions and equipment to make paint from soil and charcoal mixed with egg yolk is also available (this requires more than 1 day).
